Ep. 8 | Winchester Mystery House: Haunted or No?
Updated: Sep 27, 2019
A fabulous recommendation from Applesauce & Horsefeathers' first expert guests has landed Christa and Sage on the topic of the Winchester Mystery House located in San Jose, California.
Get your calendars out so we can find a time to...no, we don't have time for that. We're too busy getting lost in the Winchester labyrinth, or maybe it's our mental labyrinth. Wherever it is, Christa's got more open tabs than a bar with a busted credit card machine.
A big shout-out to Idris Elba and "Mrs. Idris Elba" on your marriage! (Sorry we didn't know your name, Sabrina Dhowre!) We hope you have a beautiful and happy life together, full of joy and things :)
The ladies ponder the difference between the Feminine Arts and the Masculine Arts. Sage didn't know there was such a thing! ;p Quiz time... Pick out all the pictures with "Feminine Arts" LOL
(Trick question! You can do whatever you want to do, no matter your gender!)
Lillian Gish narrated a short documentary about the Winchester Mystery House; you should take a look!
(I couldn't find the ballroom story anywhere else, by the way.~Christa)
THE POWER OF THE BABE!!!!!!! We could watch this all day long.
(What babe? ~Christa)
We went to see Diana Gabaldon in 2013 and geeked out big time. And yes, Christa IS smelling the book. She often does, and the look on her face is pure happiness.
At just 11 years old, Daisy Eagan won a Tony award for The Secret Garden (here's their Tony performance, also featuring Mandy Patinkin, John Cameron Mitchell, Rebecca Luker, & Robert Westenberg)...
...and she's gone on to have many other opportunities in her life :) We adore you, Daisy!
Moving from Sage's favourite childhood book and on to Christa's. (It's not just her childhood favourite!) Here's her Anne of Green Gables/Prince Edward Island collection:
Also mentioned in this episode:
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) tracked 1,020 hate groups in the US in 2018. Very interesting stuff... Click HERE to see their map and read more.
Do you know all the words to "Rise Up" from Hamilton, just like Christa & Sage? Here's some help from the original cast, performing at the White House with the Obamas bopping along in the front row.
Oliver Winchester, Walter Wirt Winchester, Sarah Pardee Winchester, a 1920s Winchester ad, and Billy the Kid posing with his 1873 Winchester rifle.
Check in next week xoxo,
Sage Otter & Christa Noodles
P.S. Christa wants you to know that the three shows she was rooting for at the Tonys all walked away winners: Hadestown for Best Musical, Oklahoma! for Best Musical Revival, and The Ferryman for Best Play.
P.P.S. Christa also wants you to know that she can listen to Damon Daunno sing "Why do you take the trouble to bake my favorite pie?" on repeat. And she does. (Just ask Ben.) She wishes you the best of luck in not getting that "favou-ou--ourite pie" bit stuck in your head...but she doesn't think you'll mind it if you do. (She also never thought she'd find Curly so goddamn sexy, so you really never know what the world will bring.)
P.P.P.S. We really do bring up pie all the time, huh?
As they say in Hadestown, let the world we dream about be the one we live in now!
You'll find it at the 2:14 mark. Also enjoy his "you-ou-our hand in mine " and "No, no, d-d-d-d-don't dance all night with me." (You're welcome.)
P.P.P.P.S Titus is Christa's spirit animal!
